UTC to GMT Time Zone Converter
UTC to GMT lines up Coordinated Universal Time with London's clock. In winter they read exactly the same, but in summer London moves an hour ahead when British Summer Time kicks in — so the gap is either 0 or 1 hour depending on the date. The converter handles that switch for you automatically.
Enter a date and time to convert.
Daylight saving is applied automatically for the date you pick. Labels like PST/EST name the zone (Pacific/Eastern); the real abbreviation shifts to PDT/EDT during daylight saving, and gmt here means London (GMT in winter, BST in summer) while utc stays fixed.
The time difference
For roughly half the year, UTC and London read the same clock — the gap is 0 hours. Then from spring to fall, London moves to British Summer Time and sits 1 hour ahead of UTC. The reason is simple: UTC never shifts, but London does, so the difference between them changes across the year.
A worked example
Take 9:00 AM UTC. On January 15, 2026 that is 9:00 AM in London — same clock, because London is on GMT in winter. On July 15, 2026 the same 9:00 AM UTC becomes 10:00 AM in London, since BST has pushed the city an hour ahead.
Daylight saving & the abbreviation caveat
London is "GMT" in winter and "BST" (British Summer Time) in summer — same city, two labels. UTC, by contrast, is a fixed reference and never moves. So if you see the result change by an hour between, say, February and August, that's expected: London switched, UTC didn't. The converter applies the right offset for whatever date you pick, so the answer is always correct for that day.
When you'll use it
Handy for joining a London call from a UTC-based server log, timing a UK product launch, catching a Premier League kickoff, or coordinating with a British team when your own schedule is kept in UTC.
Frequently asked questions
Is UTC the same as GMT?
In winter, yes — London runs on GMT and matches UTC exactly. But from late March to late October London shifts to British Summer Time (BST), which is one hour ahead of UTC, so during those months they are not the same.
When does London stop matching UTC?
On Sunday, March 29, 2026, London springs forward to BST and moves an hour ahead of UTC. It falls back to GMT on Sunday, October 25, 2026, and matches UTC again.
Does UTC ever change for daylight saving?
No. UTC is a fixed reference and never observes daylight saving. Any change in the gap comes entirely from London's side switching between GMT and BST.
