BMP to JPG Converter

Turn a BMP into a JPG right in your browser — no upload, no waiting. Shrink a bulky BMP down dramatically and pick your quality level.

Everything runs in your browser — your image is never uploaded, sent to a server, or stored. Nothing leaves your device.

How it works

Choose your BMP and the tool re-encodes it as a JPG using a quality slider (default 90%). Higher quality keeps more detail but makes a bigger file; lower quality shrinks the file further but looks rougher. Either way, JPG shrinks a bulky BMP dramatically. The picture's width and height stay exactly the same — only the format changes. Your download keeps the original file name, just with a .jpg ending.

When to use it

This is best for photographic BMPs, where JPG's compression works well. Keep in mind JPG doesn't support transparency — any transparent areas will turn black. If transparency matters, convert to PNG or WebP instead.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my BMP file so big?

BMP doesn't compress its pixels at all, so every pixel is stored at full size. That makes BMP files much larger than they need to be, which is why the format is almost never used on the web.

What happens to transparent areas in my BMP?

JPG can't store transparency at all. Any transparent pixels in your BMP turn solid black once converted. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole conversion happens in your browser using a canvas element. Your file never leaves your device.
